Yesterday, September 26, reports surfaced that some armed gunmen believed to be Boko Haram members attacked Kuburvwa village in Borno state.
Naij.com reported that the gunmen invaded the village at about 6.30pm and started shooting sporadically causing the locals to take refuge in the bushes around them. According to what a security source told BBC, Boko Haram has now hoisted its flag in three villages in the north-east villages after over-running them during yesterday’s attack.
The villages are: Kubirivour, Boftari and Kuburmbalah. Yesterday’s attack led to the death of eight people including a village elder slaughtered by the terrorists.
According to other sources, the militants were also still in control of Malam Fatori town, on the Nigeria-Niger border.
Meanwhile, the deadly Boko Haram sect in two different attacks killed at least eight Nigerian soldiers in Borno state.
According to an army statement the militant sect attacked a convoy late on September 25, near Bama, 70 km southeast of Maiduguri, the state’s capital causing the deaths of an army officer, three soldiers, and three attackers.
The gunmen had also earlier attacked a military post at Logomani, 110 km northeast of Maiduguri city, killing four soldiers, the statement added. The Nigerian military also said that at least 22 insurgents died in the firefight.
